Texting can be useful and a good tool for communication if there isn't much service, but while driving, really, it should be put away. It's so dangerous; not only for the driver, but the others on the road.
This is a case where technology is not all that useful.

I am certainly guilty of texting and driving. And luckily have not gotten into an accident, or even close to getting into an accident. But I really need to be more careful when I drive. My little sister just recently showed me a wicked intense youtube video about texting and driving.

That IS an intense video. I couldn't even sit through the whole thing. I'm very thankful that I'm a "scaredy cat" driver. I may drive like your grandmother, but I also know that I'll never get into an accident like that. I won't even answer my phone while I'm driving. I'll pull over. Maybe I'm overly cautious, but I'm just saying... that will likely never be me in the video. (At least, as a result of texting... and knock on wood!)
